In Eastern Kazakstan we enter with public transport and continue east to Almaty. From Almaty we start walking again to the Kyrgyzstan border near Bishkek. |
Provisional Route Details: KAZAKHSTAN
There are two routes in Kazakhstan:
- Enter by ferry from Azerbaijan and exit to Uzbekistan
- Enter from Uzbekistan
- By train from the border to Almaty
- Walk from Almaty to the Ak-Tilek border with Kyrgyzstan
- During the journey by train, (covering some historically very important sections of the ancient Silk Road) I will continue to stop and spend time with people and listening to their stories.
- Total Country Distance: 762 km - 476 miles
- Route 1 (Kuryk Port to Uzbekistan border): 546 km - 341 miles
- Route 2 (Almaty to Kyrgyzstan border): 216 km - 135 miles
- Estimated Total Duration: 39 days (walking)
- Including anticipated rest days, visiting sites and talking to/interviewing people for the project.
- Route 1 (Kuryk Port to Uzbekistan border): 28 days
- Route 2 (Almaty to Kyrgyzstan border): 11 days
