Route Info
(NOTE: this is the provisional and approximate route and may change pre-departure and/or during the expedition)
Start of Expedition: STORIES FROM THE SILK ROAD
Estimated Start date: latter part of Feb 2024 - 1st week of March 2024
Start Location: Istanbul
(Edit: 4 Feb 2024) Looks like I'll be kicking off now in late February/early March 2024 in Istanbul as the Turkish Black Sea coastal winter weather isn't overly harsh. I'm mentioning this because I tried out my current Naturehike tent in the mountains in Svaneti, Georgia during December 2023 - it did not pass the test as a feasible extreme winter option.
Before I go I will be buying a larger backpack (Osprey Aether Plus 85) that's built for the extra weight and which will probably have more space for the larger winter sleeping bag.
(Edit: 5 Feb 2023 MC) The shorter route route would be this below at 1,450 km along the north coast from Istanbul to the Georgian border. It would still be a push to do this in 90 days as there obviously need to be some stops to do our online work and take a rest day here and there. So, the ideal is still seeing if I can get the short stay visa for more than 90 days and do the original route where we can also get a lot more stories and connect with a bigger diversity of local communities. Anyway, fingers crossed. See Planning Update (26 Dec 2022)
